How do I store my Manuka Honey?
Honey is one of the few natural products that are self-preserving. Unlike most products that need to be stored in the fridge or freeze after opening, honey does not need to be kept in the fridge after opening. The optimum temperature to store honey is between 18-20°C. The best way to store honey is to store it in a cabinet or cupboard, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. We understand that UMF® Manuka Honey is pricey compared to regular honey and you would like to achieve the best possible storage condition. By placing UMF® Manuka Honey in a fridge, you will discover that the honey will crystallise over time, meaning that it becomes ‘harder’ or ‘less liquidity” or “thicker”. Crystallisation of honey is a natural progression of low heat extracted honey. Crystallisation does not affect the quality of the honey.
How do I know if I’m buying genuine Manuka Honey?
There are a number of different tests and trials being conducted, including newly emerging work on determining what the special nature of Manuka is, that consumers can use to verify the origin and provenance of Manuka Honey. The UMF® rating is one such test. It is a measure of the attributes and values that make up Manuka Honey, and assures purity and quality. Only a small percentage of Mānuka Honey contains the characteristics required to be labelled as having the Unique Mānuka Factor (UMF®). UMF® is the registered trademark of the UMF® Honey Association and can be used only by licensed operators that meet published standards such as regular monitoring and auditing of the quality of their honey. We provide a full batch trace service through our app honeyid® so that buyers are able to check the authenticity and provenance of each and every one of our jars of Manuka Honey right back to the region it came from.
